Amazing Race In KL Stryker- Job Experience

During my holidays,i was offered to work in an event with Stryker . Let me introduce Stryker, it is one of the leading manufactures of medical equipment in United States. This company consists of more than 2000 employees and employee all around the world.

The amazing race event was held around KL. Stryker members have to achieved a certain points and get checked in at several places that are fixed in KL. They can take this opportunity to explore KL with either by foot and the LRT. The event took 6 hours that day.

I  and my friends arrived at Concorde Hotel,Kuala Lumpur at 6.30 for briefing. Many people had arrived and we are all required to wear black for the day. Briefing details is made by Mr.Abu about job scope, methods of handling things and some general information.

My friends and i during briefing

There were about 100 people and 50 of them are selected to do filing, calculating and others. The rest are the ones who are participating in the check-point. Each works in a pair.

Job scope for the day:

  • Chop the route card when participants arrive
  • Check whether they are in the right route
  • Take photos for them (competition requirements)

Requirements of the competition
  •  Checked  into 10 checkpoints. Checkpoints must be according to the sequence. There are 20 checkpoints given.
  • Have to take picture at the checkpoint with one of the check-pointers with given Polaroid camera.

Our check point destination: 陈氏书院 (grande house)

My partner,Catherine and i was assign at checkpoint 6.  100 plus is the best drink to quench our thirst in the hot blazing sun.
 Checkpoint 6!

Route of the competition

Competition started sharp at 9.30am. Teams are all very competitive as we can see them from far coming and already screaming for joy. '' Chop Chop Chop'' for all the participants that arrived. After choping the stamps, picture taken, they then rush to another destination. Speed is as fast as wind. This shows how participative and competitive they are.

Time strike one and competition ended. Catherine and I took the LRT and head to KLCC convention centre to meet up with the others.Something surprise me is stryker also do take the competition seriously, they also care about giving to the society. These bicycles are fixed by the stryker's members and is going to be given out to 150 children.

Children from_____ lining up and we brought them to the hall, to surprise them with the bicycles. Their smiles on their faces are so wide when the emcee announced that they are going to have their very own bicycle.

Bicycles giving ceremony.

Stryker members going back after the ceremony ends.

I had fun participating in this event. Although i need to work under the hot sun, but witnessing the ''spirit'' how they participate in the competition, i feel energized and inspired by them. Smiles from the children are still ink printed in my mind when they know they can have their very own bicycle. neither the less, i had fun making new friends and experiencing something new in my life.
